When Growth Means Becoming Less Divided Within Yourself
Today's Reflection
Growth is not always becoming more. Sometimes growth is becoming less divided within yourself.
We often imagine growth as expansion: acquiring greater knowledge, developing new abilities, pursuing another goal or becoming capable of more.
Yet there is another kind of growth that is quieter. It occurs when our values, choices, energy and direction begin moving together rather than pulling us in different directions.
True expansion does not always require adding something to our lives. Sometimes it begins by bringing more of ourselves into alignment with the life we already have.
A Deeper Reflection
Inner division consumes considerable energy. We may say that something matters while repeatedly giving our attention elsewhere. We may remain committed to a direction that no longer reflects what we value.
None of this necessarily means that something is wrong. Human beings change, while habits, obligations and identities often continue long after the circumstances that created them.
Awareness allows us to notice these divisions without immediately trying to correct them.
Like two streams travelling separately before joining one river, different parts of ourselves can gradually begin moving towards the same direction.
Alignment does not mean eliminating complexity or becoming perfectly certain. It means reducing the distance between what we know matters and how we actually live.
Growth sometimes looks less like becoming someone new and more like becoming increasingly undivided in who we already are.
A Question for Today
Where in my life are my energy and my deeper values currently moving in different directions?
